Press Release: Bringing Japan’s sustainable technology to Africa / Launch of an industrial vocational training programme for Africa, in cooperation with 5 Japanese companies

UNIDO ITPO Tokyo is honored to announce that it has launched the “Industrial Vocational Training Programme in Africa through Technology Transfer from Japan”, funded by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). The programme aims to provide training to local engineers and technicians in Africa on technologies from Japanese companies that contribute to sustainable development and disseminate the newly acquired knowledge and technologies within their home countries. The project period is from May 2023 to March 2025.
Be-A Japan, Ebara Corporation, ITOCHU Corporation, Hinode Sangyo Co., Ltd., Kaiho Industry Co., Ltd. have been selected as the 5 companies to cooperate in this programme. The participating companies were chosen from the companies that have registered their technologies onto UNIDO ITPO Tokyo’s “Sustainable Technology Promotion Platform (STePP)”. The project will develop industrial human resources in Ethiopia, Morocco, South Africa, and Uganda, and will be implemented in two major phases. In Phase 1, instructors from the four countries are invited to Japan, where each selected company conducts training-of-trainers (ToT) activities relevant to their technology. In Phase 2, the instructors return to their home countries and share the skills they acquired in Japan with local engineers and technicians in their home countries.
