Report on World Manufacturing Production Q4 2018
15.03.2019
UNIDO Statistics presents this report on world manufacturing production in the fourth
quarter of 2018.
Major findings
- An overall expansion of manufacturing production is still perceptible, but the pace of global manufacturing growth is showing a gradual deceleration throughout the quarters of 2018.
- Disaggregated figures by industrialized regions indicate a year-on-year growth in East Asia (1.3 per cent) and in North America (2.7 per cent) in the fourth quarter of 2018. Manufacturing output in Europe, however, contracted by an estimated 0.5 per cent.
- Evidence of an accelerating slowdown in manufacturing output was observed in developing and emerging industrial economies as well, although China’s manufacturing output growth enjoyed relative stability.
-
Medium-technology industries, including the manufacture of non-metallic mineral products and basic metals, were able to resist decelerating year-on-year growth rates in manufacturing output and expanded at 3.1 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2018.
