Sugawara Industry Co., Ltd. has developed the asphalt waste recycling technology using hot mix recycled asphalt plants, which reduces the use of new pavement materials by recycling reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) that is generated when roads are repaired for producing recycled asphalt mixtures and using them again to pave roads. Implementing this technology can lower the environmental impact derived from the resource recycling and also reduce costs. In addition to these, the quality of pavement would be improved compared to the conventional method, since this technology provides smooth surface by cutting and removing damaged layor prior to paving roads, instead of applying the new coat to cover the damaged parts.
This technology has already been implemented in Indonesia. An asphalt recycling plant was constructed together with local company in 2017 and expanded the business in a full-fledged operation.
