It has been reported that in cases of fraud the scammers, via social media, are falsely impersonating doctors or military personnel in association with the United Nations, and request the advance payment of their holiday or traveling cost to Japan after their retirement. Other cases report that scammers present themselves as United Nations officials, and in one particular incident as the former President of the United Nations General Assembly, where civilians were asked to pay registration fees in return for appointment as Goodwill Ambassadors.

The United Nations and/or its officials will not contact civilians directly, to request any payment or advance payment.
