UNIDO ITPO Tokyo Head presented a key message on decarbonization at CIFTIS

Yuko Yasunaga, the Head of UNIDO ITPO Tokyo, made a presentation on global carbon neutrality and sustainability at the 2021 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) which was held in Beijing from the 2nd to 7th of September. This event aimed to promote digital economy and digital trade development, and was organized both online and offline.
In his presentation titled “How to Achieve Global Carbon Neutrality and Sustainability”, he cited the latest report on climate change which warns that global average temperatures could rise by 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2040 and he emphasized the critical role of ICT and smart energy systems, providing the following key messages:
- Further promoting renewable energy
- Creating energy efficient society
- Redesigning the structure of cities to realize sustainability-oriented office, home, transportation and society’s infrastructure
- Changing technological and industrial structure of carbon intensive manufacturing sectors
Finally, in order to achieve decarbonization, he called for the cooperation of various actors, including governments, international organizations and private sectors, and said “Let’s move together dynamically and diligently”.
