Water treatment (waste water): Linear Diaphragm Air Pump

Water treatment (waste water): Linear Diaphragm Air Pump

TECHNO TAKATSUKI CO., LTD.

Linear Diaphragm Air Pump
Contributes to Wastewater
Purification Around the World

T           echno Takatsuki CO., LTD., exports air pumps produced in mass-production factories located in the Philippines and Vietnam. The manufacturer’s technology is a linear diaphragm air pump designed for aeration of residential and small commercial wastewater treatment systems.

The technology, called the HIBLOW air pump, provides air for household and compact wastewater treatment systems in an effort to activate aerobic bacteria, which in turn can reduce organic matter contained in wastewater.

Here’s how the process works:

When an AC power supply is applied to the air pump, the polarity of each electromagnet alternates. This in turn causes the actuating rod with permanent magnets to oscillate and change the volume of chambers with diaphragm rubbers and check valves. This generates airflow.

This technology is highly energy efficient, durable and cost effective, as there is no physical contact between metal parts and no lubrication is required. Through the use of an inverter, the pump can also utilize DC power. Therefore, it can be connected to renewable energy sources such as solar panels.

The underlying technology is nothing new. In fact, the linear diaphragm air pump was originally invented by Techno Takatsuki in 1967, with widespread use in wastewater treatment systems in 1972. Currently, more than 18 million units have been sold globally for wastewater treatment as well as other applications, such as fuel cells, airbeds, massagers and analytical equipment.

Major Features and Advantages

I. Durability
The moving portion of the air pump is comprised of an actuating rod supported by synthetic rubber diaphragms. They oscillate laterally, resulting in continuous long-term operation.

II. No Lubrication Needed
This oil-less system has no contact between moving parts, resulting in exhaust air that is pure and clean.

III. High Efficiency
Due to the electromagnetic oscillating mechanical process that puts no moving parts in contact with one another, the HIBLOW pump offers a high level of performance featuring low power consumption.

IV. Compact Yet Powerful
The HIBLOW air pump is small and compact in size so it fits in many areas. But power is not sacrificed due to the small size. It still retains its high power thanks to a dual electromagnet module, one in front and one in back.

V. Quiet
Thanks to its soundproof construction, there is no loud noise due to air flow or vibration, which makes the HIBLOW pump extremely quiet.

VI. Low Maintenance
It is possible to use the HIBLOW pump for long periods of time with no maintenance needed. If a diaphragm does break, it’s easy to find and order modular parts for a quick repair.

In conclusion, the HIBLOW air pump can be set up with an alarm unit that detects failure immediately. This reduces the negative effects on the performance of wastewater treatment systems. In addition, replacement parts are readily available, making the pump very easy to repair. Thus, users get a long lifespan out of the unit with minimal maintenance requirements, saving time, money and hassle.

Possible applications

The most suitable technology for aeration of household/compact wastewater treatment system
When an AC power supply is applied to electromagnets, the magnetic forces also alternate attraction as the current alternates. This causes an actuating rod with permanent magnets to vibrate and change the volume of chambers with diaphragm rubbers and check valves, thereby generating airflow. As there is no physical contact, this technology achieves high efficiency and high durability, with reasonable cost.
By using an inverter, these a pump may also use DC power, which means it can be connected renewable energy sources such as solar panels.

The HIBLOW air pump provides air for household/compact wastewater treatment systems to activate aerobic bacteria which reduce organic matter in the wastewater.

Competitive advantage

Durability
With a simple mechanical process and few moving parts, our pumps provide long-term continuous operation. The oscillating magnetic rod that is connected to two special synthetic rubber diaphragms are the only major moving parts.

No lubrication (Oil-less)
There is no contact between moving parts, meaning no lubrication is required and exhaust air is always clean.

High efficiency
Owing to the electromagnetic oscillating construction which eliminates moving parts in contact, the HIBLOW pump achieves high performance with low power consumption.

Compact and powerful
The HIBLOW air pump employs a perfectly-dual electromagnet module, one in the front and the other in the rear. This mechanism makes for a powerful device and a compact form factor.

Low noise
Soundproof construction prevents/eliminates noise from air flow and vibration making the HIBLOW pump exceptionally quiet.

Smooth air flow
Because the exhaust air volume is very constant with nearly zero pulsation, the HIBLOW pump is suitable for applications which require a consistent air supply and pressure.

Simple maintenance
The HIBLOW pump may be used for long periods with no maintenance. However, in the event that a diaphragm breaks, modular parts are available to allow easy repair.

Performance

Approx. 20 L/min to 200 L/min per unit.
Factory engineered manifold systems are available to connect up to 5 pumps for a maximum of 1000 L/min.

Technical maturity

The linear diaphragm air pump was invented by Techno Takatsuki in 1967, and started to be sold for use with wastewater treatment systems in 1972.
To date, more than 18 million units have been sold all over the world, not only for wastewater treatment, but also for a wide range of other applications, which include fuel cells, airbeds, massagers, analytical equipment/devices, and so on.

           Sales Performance                                                                                                  (UNITS)

North America & Latin America   Europe & The near and Middle East        Asia & Oceania
                  1,140,000                      510,000              150,000

Conceivable risk

The life time of an air pump depends on its operating conditions (e.g. harsh conditions such as flooding and/or over-heating cause early breakdown).
The pump must be replaced if it breaks down, as performance of wastewater treatment systems are directly affected by the air pump.
The HIBLOW air pump may be equipped with an alarm unit to detect the failure immediately, to minimize negative effects on the performance of wastewater treatment systems.
Moreover, replacement parts are available and the pump is very easy to repair.
The air pump will maintain good performance for a long time without replacement, saving time and money.
