UNIDO ITPO Tokyo and Kawasaki City jointly organized a half-day visit for Embassy officials from developing and emerging countries to the Kawasaki International Eco-Tech Fair 2016 exhibition, which took place in Todoroki Arena on 19 February 2016.
23 diplomats (from 18 countries) visited booths of Japanese companies participating in the exhibition in Kawasaki. During the visit, they could get familiar with a variety of latest environmentally friendly technologies and products available in Japan and also learned how Kawasaki City has transformed into a eco-city with industrial and academic clusters after severe environmental challenges in the past. Diplomats asked many questions and exchanged business cards with the companies, which became a good occasion of networking. After the booth visit, Mr. Norihito Fukuda, Mayor of Kawasaki City, made a welcome speech to the participants and in return, Ambassadors from Maldives and Mauritania made remarks that this visit was a big success and they expected to build a closer relationship with Kawasaki City.
The programme is organized to provide diplomats stationed in Japan with exposure experience to Japanese technologies which can be applicable to developing and emerging nations, thereby contributing to the policy planning on sustainable industrial development as well as environment management in their countries.
