Moroccan Trainees Learned Decentralized Wastewater Treatment System with Microbubble Generators (STePP Industrial Vocational Training Programme) / Two-Week Training Program by Hinode Sangyo Co., Ltd.

UNIDO ITPO Tokyo launched the “Industrial Vocational Training Programme in Africa through Technology Transfer from Japan”, funded by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). The programme aims to provide training to local engineers and technicians in Africa on technologies from Japanese companies that contribute to sustainable development and disseminate the newly acquired knowledge within their home countries.  The details of the program can be found here.

In April 2024, UNIDO ITPO Tokyo invited two trainees from Morocco to Japan, and with the support of Hinode Sangyo Co., Ltd., successfully completed a 2-week training program on promoting the skill development of engineers for wastewater treatment in Morocco. 

About the Training Programme

The two trainees who took part in the programme were Ms. Lamiaa Illoul, an Environmental Engineer from OFPPT and Mr. Hicham Raji, a Hydraulic Engineer from OFPPT.  The training programme took place over 12 days from April 15th 2024 to April 26th 2024.

The programme included training for the following technologies and observational tours.

  1. Biological treatment of wastewater and operation management
  2. About troubles in operation and management
  3. Application of HMB to wastewater treatment
  4. Activation of treatment capacity by microbial formulation
  5. Role of government in the case of the City of Yokohama 
  6. Observational tours to facilities using HMB system and batch-type activated sludge process


On April 26th, the closing ceremony was held with the participation of E. Rachad Bouhlal Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco, Mr. Gaku Okamoto, from the Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau, Technical Cooperation Division of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (METI), Ms. Kaori Fujita, Director of Hinode Sangyo Co., Ltd., and Mr. Ferda Gelegen, Deputy Head of UNIDO ITPO Tokyo.

As the next phase of the programme, a training to disseminate the technology and know-how the trainees acquired in Japan will be held in Morocco (Phase 2), May 2024 onwards.  Further information will be updated on the project page.
